Situation and Needs
March 18, 2008

Dear Saints,

Warm greetings in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

We want to thank Lord and appreciate you for your prayers, love and concern over our lives, Ministry and country. We sincerely accept your love and oneness the Lord has planted among us. We are also grateful for your continued prayers and support since the devil invaded our country. This was and is spiritual warfare against the army of the Lord. We pray many blessings into your lives, families, ministry and work.

We see the Lord on our side, there is victory and we proclaim and declare that the Lord our God reigns forever more. We continue to request for more prayers to reach out to others who perish without the Him in their lives.

May the Lord strengthen, nourish and give you favor in all that you lay your hands on to do, bless and multiply it.

The Sojourner's Note: Totals have been added to the information provided.  More than 25% of  Church Members affected have lost their homes to fire!

These are few figures of the widely affected region of Mt. Elgon which we are part of in Bungoma.

Some of the Pastor and victims lost their bicycles and donkeys as a mean of transportation. It is still unsafe to return to their homes and so will continue to depend on help from brethren and well-wishers. Thirteen churches were also demolished and set on fire in this region and will have to be reconstructed when calm returns.

2         There is no safe water. Our hand dug borehole well is dried up due to dry season right now and doesn’t help anything. The water we only have is the Municipal water which is not available and unsafe.

3         These are few figures on how basic commodity prices have been affected since 1st January 2008. The food and staples in Kenya are scarce but are available from the neighboring Uganda; have to cross the border thus making the prices high. Many commodities and services have doubled and others tripled in prices.

4         SHELTER & CLOTHING:

Many people lost everything they had in their homes including, houses, clothes, livestock, farm produce etc. Shelter and clothing are not available to the victims.

These victims have to start a fresh. They need first to put up semi-permanent structures and be helped to get clothing so they can continue with their lives. To put up a completely furnished sizable family semi-permanent house is Kshs 158,000/=  ($2500.oo dollars).

The Government with its regulation/ custom department does not allow the importation of clothes without being licensed. We may buy them second hand clothes from this end.

We have several ladies that have given births and we expect even more with expectant mothers in camps. These mothers lack basic provisions for their young ones, bedding, clothing etc. The situation really saddens.

6         HEALTH:

Many of the violence victims receive basic treatments provided by the Red Cross for common illnesses like Malaria, Typhoid, etc but we have two church members that have bullet wounds. They were shot mistakenly during the fracas and sustained bone fractures and wounds. Their Hospital bills are so high. One has a bill of Kshs. 51,000/= ( $ 810), and the other has Kshs 43,000/= ($ 683) both still counting.

The Dollar RATE $ : @Kshs 63.

The Sojourner's note: The dollar to Ksh (Kenya Shilling) is down from Kshs 72 to Kshs 63 due to the decrease in the value of the US Dollar!

May the Lord bless you for standing with us.

Blessings…….

Note:
Please consider the plight of these fine Brothers and Sisters in the Lord.

I have made every effort to deliver the Bishop's communication faithfully.  I have only made well marked additions for the purpose of perspective and clarity.

I have provided here the addresses both in Kenya and the United States should you wish to be of assistance to the people Bishop Bushebi is caring for and ministering to in these days of turmoil.

The Blessings of our Lord on you,
